Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment is necessary once damage (decay, trauma, etc.) has reached the inside of your tooth and has caused irreversible changes in your pulp.

These changes can be associated with pain, but very often they are not. Our experience is that over 60% of the time our patients had no pre-existing pain and were not aware that they needed this treatment, before we looked at their x-rays.

Actually, the discomfort experienced in the period leading up to a seeking of dental care is truly the painful period of time, not the root canal procedure itself.

The treatment involves removing the infected tissue, cleaning and disinfecting the canals, and sealing the canals, so no infection can penetrate to the root tips anymore. We  like to compare this part to putting a cork in to a bottle to seal it properly.

A laboratory made restoration (Onlays, Crown, Veneer) is usually needed within 2 weeks of this treatment.

Most of the time we treat a tooth in one visit, though it can take up to three. The procedure is done under local anesthesia, so everything is painless. We are overwhelmed every time a patient gets up from the chair and thanks us for the treatment. For some reasons most people are afraid of this particular treatment, so helping them get thru this treatment without pain is one of highlights of our day.
